Content Gap Analysis
Content gap analysis is the work of finding the topics and questions your buyers search for that your site doesn't answer yet, often by checking what competing sites rank for. Ahrefs, an SEO tool company, describes the basic version as taking every keyword a competitor ranks for and subtracting the ones your own site ranks for.

What Content Gap Analysis means for your business
The same check works for whole subjects. SEO writers call a missing subject a topical gap: a competitor might have a section on financing or warranties that your site never covers at all, and we'd weigh that above any single keyword.
A competitor list only shows what other sites already rank for. It can't show questions nobody's answered well yet. Two terms in this glossary, comparative query and content extractability, had no search volume in Google Ads data on October 29, 2026. We'd start with what buyers ask, search those questions in Google and ChatGPT, and note which ones your site answers, which it skirts, and which it skips.
Deciding where each missing answer should live is the next step. Our topical map entry covers it.
If buyers keep asking things your site never answers, writing the pages and sections that answer them is where we'd put the work.
