Agent readiness for when an AI agent does the choosing

Plate Lunch Collective is an AI SEO agency that gets brands named when buyers ask, in search, on social, and in AI. Agent readiness is the next step of that work. When a buyer sends an AI agent to pick a provider, book a table, ask for a quote or buy something, the agent tends to go with a business it can read and act on. We find out what agents can do with yours, and what to fix.

What agent readiness means

What agent readiness means for your business

Agent readiness is how easily an AI agent working for a buyer can read your business and act on it. The agent checks your specs, prices, availability and policies, then tries to finish the job. You'll also see the phrase used for getting your own staff ready to use AI agents. That's a different job. This page is about the agents your buyers send.

  1. 1

    Known

An AI has heard of your business and can say what it is. That's the entity work: one clear, matching record of who you are.

  2. 2

    Named

Your business comes up when a buyer asks an AI assistant what to buy or who to call. That's AI search optimization, and it's where most of our work sits today.

  3. 3

    Chosen and used

An AI agent picks your business and gets the job done with it, like booking the room or sending the quote request. That's agent readiness.

Why agents pick who they pick

Why AI agents choose businesses they can use

An AI agent can't call you to ask a question. If your price, your hours or your return policy isn't somewhere it can read, it tends to move on to a business where it is. We've seen it in client work: when an AI agent can connect to a company's tools, it reaches for that company.

  • If it can't find your price or which dates are free, it can't finish the job.
  • If there's no way to book or ask for a quote, it may stop and try someone else.
  • The only way to know what an agent does with your business is to test it.

What agents look for

What an AI agent needs from your business

Agents work from three things, and the job stalls when one is missing.

  • Facts it can check

Your specs, prices, availability and policies, written out where an agent can read them, and the same everywhere they appear. "Call for pricing" is a dead end for an agent.

  • A way to connect

It needs a way to act. For a lodge that's a booking link. For a plumber it's a quote form. For a store it's a product feed. For SaaS and developer tools it's a way in from the chat or the coding agent. ChatGPT calls these apps, Gemini calls them Connected Apps, and Claude and Meta's Muse call them connectors.

  • Reasons to trust you

Reviews, clear terms, and a record of who you are that matches across the web. That's the same record our entity work builds, so the steps help each other.

    Entity SEO

Claude's help center describes how Claude handles these: it can bring up a connected app on its own when it fits what you're doing, and when more than one could help, it shows them and lets you pick. That's how Claude says Claude works. Other agents may work differently.

Underneath, Claude says its connectors can link to any service that supports MCP, the Model Context Protocol, an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to outside systems.

What the work involves

How we get your business ready for AI agents

Agent readiness is part of one ongoing AI SEO engagement, the work of getting your brand named when buyers ask, in search, on social, and in AI. We don't build the connection, and we don't sell a scanning tool. We test, we write the plan, and your own developers build it.

  1. 1

    Test

We give AI agents the jobs your buyers give them, like comparing options, checking a price or booking, and record what they could do with your business. We run it with and without your connections, if you have any.

  2. 2

    Plan

A plain list of what got in the way, with what to fix first at the top.

  3. 3

    Brief your developers

A written brief your developers, or the team that runs your site, can build from. It covers the feed, form, app or connector the plan calls for.

  4. 4

    Test again

Once changes ship, we run the same jobs again as part of the ongoing work, and show you the before and after.

Examples

What agent readiness looks like in your industry

Five of these are made-up examples, and they're labeled that way. In each one, the business an agent can work with is easier for it to pick.

  • SaaS

    Made-up example

A team asks an AI assistant to send an invoice, book a demo or log a new lead. When a SaaS product works from inside the chat, as an app or a connector, the work can get done there. A product with no way in may get left out.

  • Developer tools

    Made-up example

A developer asks a coding agent in their editor or terminal to add a feature. The agent reaches for the libraries, UI components, APIs and SDKs it can read about and work with. A tool it can't find or read is an easy one to pass over.

  • Restaurants

    Made-up example

A diner asks an AI assistant to book a table for four on Friday, somewhere quiet. A restaurant whose hours, menu and reservation link are easy for an agent to find is easier to book. One that takes bookings only by phone may be harder for the agent to use.

  • Online stores

    Written up in full

Shopping agents read product feeds and catalogs, and a description that answers the buyer's question gives the agent something to match. We wrote up what that means for a store's product data.

  • Travel and booking

    Made-up example

A traveler asks an AI assistant to find a two-night stay with parking and book it. A lodge that shows its rates, availability, parking and cancellation rules where an agent can see them is one the agent can book. One that says "call for rates" leaves the agent stuck.

  • Local services and quotes

    Made-up example

A homeowner asks an AI assistant for two roofing quotes before the rainy season. A roofer that lists the area it serves and has a quote form is one the agent can ask. One with only a phone number is harder for the agent to reach.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask about agent readiness

What is agent readiness?

Agent readiness is how well an AI agent working for a buyer can read your business and act on it. That means finding your specs, prices, availability and policies, and having a way to book, buy or ask for a quote. It's a different thing from getting your own team ready to use AI agents, which is internal IT work.

What is agentic SEO?

Agentic SEO means making your business easy for AI agents to pick and use, not just easy for people to find. We do it as agent readiness: we test what agents in your category can work with, then write a plan for your developers. It builds on the AI search optimization work that gets you known and named first.

Do I need an app in ChatGPT or an MCP server?

Not always. These are ways for an AI agent to reach your service from inside the chat. ChatGPT calls them apps, Gemini calls them Connected Apps, and Claude calls them connectors, which can link to any service that supports MCP, an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to outside systems. A SaaS or developer tools company may want one, while a lodge may need clear rates and a booking link more. We tell you which connection matters for your buyers before your developers build anything.

Claude connectors (Claude Help Center)What MCP is (modelcontextprotocol.io)

Do you build the connection for us?

No. Your own developers, or the team that runs your site, build it. We test what agents can do with your business today, write the plan and the brief, and test again after the changes ship.

Will AI agents pick us once this is done?

Nobody can promise that, and we won't. What we can show you is what agents could do with your business before and after the changes, tested the same way each time. The choice stays with the agent and the buyer it works for.

How does this fit with the AI Search Game Plan?

The AI Search Game Plan includes a short check of whether AI agents in your category can act on your business. If you want a look before anything ongoing, it's a good place to start, from $1,500. If the check shows a gap, agent readiness can become part of the ongoing work.
