Content Freshness

Content freshness is how current a page's information is: whether its facts, prices and advice still hold today. Google says its systems look at several clues, not one date, to estimate when a page was published or significantly updated, and its guide to helpful content warns against changing a page's date when the content hasn't really changed.

What Content Freshness means for your business

SEO writers call clues like these freshness signals. For some searches, like news, Google also runs systems that favor fresher pages; our query deserves freshness entry covers those. We'd leave a page's date alone until the page itself changes.

For a local business, freshness mostly means the plain facts: this year's prices, current hours, the services you still offer and the people who still work there. We'd give each page that brings in work a review date. Lizzi Sassman said on Google's Search Off the Record podcast that her documentation team has a bot that reminds them when a page is due for a check.

If your pages still list last year's prices or a service you dropped, bringing them up to date and easy to quote is part of the work we'd take on.
