Google API leak (Content Warehouse)
The Google API leak, also called the Content Warehouse leak, is a set of internal Google documents that were posted publicly in March 2024, apparently by accident, and reported that May. They list thousands of kinds of data Google's systems can store about pages, sites and links. Google confirmed they were real and cautioned against assumptions.

What Google API leak (Content Warehouse) means for your business
The documents describe fields. They don't say how much any one of them counts. Rand Fishkin of SparkToro and Mike King of iPullRank first reported it, and Fishkin wrote that they don't show the weight of any element in ranking or prove which ones are used. The Verge noted some of the data could be out of date or collected for other uses. Google told The Verge not to make assumptions from out-of-context, outdated or incomplete information.
A section about site topics lists siteFocusScore, described as a number for how much a site is focused on one topic, and siteRadius, a measure of how far a site's pages drift from that topic. The fields are in the documents. Nothing in them says how, or whether, Google uses them to rank pages, and Google hasn't said.
We'd read the leak like a patent: a sign of what Google can track, never proof of what it does. Our takeaway for a business is one we'd give with or without it. Keep your site about what you sell, and skip posts on topics your buyers don't ask about.
If your blog has drifted into topics that have little to do with your business, tightening your site around what buyers search for is something we'd look at first.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited SparkToro, Wikipedia, SEO blogs, Reddit and YouTube, and treated several fields as proof of ranking use, which the documents don't show. ChatGPT cited tech news and SEO sites and noted that a field isn't proof of use.
