Digital PR
Digital PR is public relations work aimed at the web: getting a business written about on news sites, blogs, podcasts, trade sites and other places people read online. The Public Relations Society of America describes PR as communication that builds good relationships between an organization and the people it deals with, including looking after its reputation.

What Digital PR means for your business
We'd put the most weight on coverage a reporter or editor chooses to write. SEO writers call the links in it editorial links, and the trust that comes with them editorial authority. Paid placements whose links pass ranking credit count as link spam under Google's rules, and our link spam entry has the list.
For a local business, digital PR is often smaller than it sounds. Think of a project spotlight in a trade magazine, a recap of a trade show you exhibited at, a page a university or nonprofit wrote about work you did together, or a guest spot on an industry webinar.
We'd pick outlets your buyers actually read before chasing big-name sites, and we'd judge a placement by what it says about you as much as by its link. If competitors keep getting written up and your name never comes up, we can look at where they're covered and what it would take to get you there.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview called digital PR old-style PR mixed with SEO, said it helps with AI answers too, and cited PR agencies and Semrush, not PRSA. ChatGPT listed tactics with no sources, then added a section on it as a career.
