Indexability

Indexability is whether a search engine can add a page to its index, the list of pages it can show in results. In Google Search Console, the Page indexing report shows which of your pages Google has indexed and gives a reason for each one it hasn't, such as a noindex tag, a robots.txt block or a missing page.

What Indexability means for your business

Google's Page indexing report used to be called the Index Coverage report, and its training video still carries that name. Google says a site with fewer than 500 pages probably doesn't need the report at all. A site: search shows what Google has from your site, and the URL Inspection tool checks one page at a time.

Not indexed isn't always a problem. Google says it's fine when the reason is a robots.txt rule you meant, a noindex tag, a duplicate, or a page you removed. Two labels trip people up: "Crawled, currently not indexed," where Google read the page and left it out for now, and "Discovered, currently not indexed," where Google knows the address but hasn't crawled it yet, often to avoid overloading your site.

This is also the first check for Google's AI features. Google says a page has to be indexed and allowed to show a snippet before AI Overviews or AI Mode can link to it. So we'd go down the not-indexed list first. If your service pages sit on that list, we'd work out why Google is leaving them out.
