Search engine indexing
Search engine indexing is the step where a search engine reads a page it has crawled, works out what it's about, and stores it in its index, the database it pulls results from. Google describes Search in three stages: crawling, indexing and serving results. A page has to be indexed before it can show up in Google Search.

What Search engine indexing means for your business
During indexing, Google groups pages that look alike and picks one, the canonical, as the version it may show. It also notes facts about that page, like its language and the country it's local to.
Each stage can stop a page. Google's guide says it doesn't promise to crawl, index or show any page, even one that follows its rules. Low-quality content or a design that's hard to process can keep a page out of the index. An indexed page can still go unseen, too, when it doesn't match what people search or its quality is low.
Google also says it doesn't take payment to crawl a site more often or rank it higher, so a promise of guaranteed indexing is one to walk away from. When a page goes missing, we'd sort it by stage before fixing anything, because each stage has a different fix. If Google hasn't crawled it, we'd look at links and the sitemap. If Google crawled it and left it out, we'd look at the page itself. If it's indexed but never shows, the question is whether it answers what people search. If your pages are live but nobody finds them on Google, working out which stage they're stuck at is how we'd start.
