Page Speed
Page speed is how quickly a web page loads and responds for the people who visit it. Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool reports on it for phones and computers. It shows real visits from Chrome users over the past 28 days next to a test run in a controlled setting, then suggests what to fix.

What Page Speed means for your business
Speed is one part of page experience, and our page experience entry covers how Google fits it into ranking. Google says it still shows the most relevant page even when the experience is poor, so we'd fix a slow page for the person waiting on it before anything else.
PageSpeed Insights shows two kinds of results. Field data is what real Chrome users saw over the past 28 days. Lab data comes from one test in a controlled setting, which Google says is useful for tracking down problems. When the two disagree, we'd go by the field data for what buyers feel and use the lab test to find the cause.
A newer page or one with few visits may have no field data of its own. Google's page says PageSpeed Insights then falls back to numbers for your whole site, and if the whole site doesn't have enough visits either, it can't show real-visitor data at all. In that case, the lab test is all you have to go on.
We'd start with the pages buyers land on from search, opened on a phone, and look at everything that loads before the phone number and the booking button: large photos, chat widgets, review sliders and pop-ups. If your pages take a while to show the phone number or the booking button, a technical review of your pages is part of the work we do.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview defined page speed as load time and cited SEO tool blogs, Moz, Forbes, YouTube and Google's PageSpeed Insights page. It credited the ranking point to Moz and seoClarity rather than to Google. ChatGPT linked only to PageSpeed Insights.
