Semantic SEO

Semantic SEO is an industry name for building pages around a topic and the questions people ask about it, so search engines can match them by meaning, not only by exact phrases. Google's ranking systems guide says RankBrain helps it return relevant pages even when they don't contain all the exact words in a search.

What Semantic SEO means for your business

Google doesn't use the phrase, and no one owns a definition. SEO writers use it for a mix of habits: answering the related questions on a topic, naming the people, places and products a page is about, linking pages that belong together, and adding schema markup. We'd call most of that careful writing with a newer label.

Take a made-up plumber. If their water heater page only repeats "water heater repair", it leaves a lot out. A page built the semantic way also answers what buyers ask: repair or replace, tank or tankless, which brands you service and which towns you cover, each one a search the page can show up for.

Semantic SEO is about how your pages cover a topic. Entity SEO, which we do as its own service, is about whether search engines and AI tools know your business itself.

If your site has a thin page for each keyword and nowhere that answers a buyer's questions in one place, building pages around those questions is the content work we'd start with.
