Gemini is Google's AI assistant, an app you can type or talk to for help with writing, planning, research and more, on the web and on phones. You can switch between talking and typing in the same chat, ask it to look into a topic in depth, or have it make images and videos from a description.

What Gemini means for your business
Here for the star sign? This page covers Google's AI assistant instead. Google renamed its Bard chatbot Gemini in February 2024. For a local business, we'd start with how Gemini answers questions about places. Google's help pages say Gemini uses public information from Google Maps to find businesses, stores and restaurants, and to give their addresses, websites, ratings and opening hours.
So when someone asks Gemini for a bakery that's open late near them, the answer draws on the same listing people see in Google Maps. We'd check your Google Business Profile first, since that's where the listing's details come from, and make sure your hours, website and category match your own site.
Whether Gemini can use your web pages is a separate question, set in your robots.txt file with a rule called Google-Extended. Our Google-Extended entry explains the trade-off before you change it.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview called Gemini, formerly Bard, both Google's AI models and its AI assistant, citing Google's pages, Wikipedia, Coursera, CNET and YouTube. ChatGPT set itself against Gemini in a table and cited only Gemini's site. Neither answer mentioned the star sign.
