Google Discover

Google Discover is a part of Google Search that shows people articles, videos and other content picked for their interests, based on their Web and App Activity, without them typing a search. Pages can show up there on their own if Google has indexed them and they meet Discover's content policies, with no special code needed.

What Google Discover means for your business

Discover traffic comes and goes. Google says it's less predictable than visits from keyword searches, and it can change as people's interests shift or Google updates Search. We'd treat it as a bonus and watch it in Search Console's Discover report, not plan a month around it.

Google's Discover guide asks for big images, at least 1200 pixels wide, and the max-image-preview:large setting so they can show at full size. It also warns against clickbait and misleading preview text. On a business blog, we'd give each post one strong, real photo and a title that plainly says what's inside.

Google's Search generative AI control covers Discover's AI parts too, along with AI Overviews and AI Mode, and the AI Overviews entry explains what opting out costs. To see how your pages do in Discover's AI parts, use the Generative AI performance report in Search Console, which covers Search and Discover.

If you're trying to tell how much of your Google traffic now runs through its AI features, our guide to reading AI traffic in your reports covers what Search Console and GA4 show.
