LinkedIn SEO

LinkedIn SEO means setting up your profile, company Page and posts so they appear when people search LinkedIn for what you do. LinkedIn says people search results are ordered differently for each searcher, based on things like that person's own profile, activity, connections and past searches. It also says adding more keywords to a profile doesn't automatically help.

What LinkedIn SEO means for your business

For a business, we'd start with the company Page. LinkedIn's help page on Page search says a short, distinctive name helps, because generic words like "professional" or "financial" bring back lots of loosely related results. It also lists the Page's followers, the connections a searcher shares with it, and the amount and quality of discussion on its posts.

On personal profiles, LinkedIn warns that a profile overloaded with keywords can be caught by its spam detection and show up less. We'd use the words a buyer would type, once each, where they're true: the headline, the About section, and the job titles and skills that describe the work.

Page admins get a Search appearances tab that lists the top keywords people used to find the Page. We'd read it before writing anything new. LinkedIn suggests using those same words in your Page's posts.

If buyers search LinkedIn for the kind of work you do and your Page never comes up, getting found on LinkedIn is part of the social search work we do.
