Instagram SEO
Instagram SEO is how you get your account and posts to appear when people use Instagram's search bar. Meta says Instagram search gathers hashtags, places, reels, posts, profiles and audio that fit the words typed, then scores them on how well they match what the person means and what that person tends to interact with.

What Instagram SEO means for your business
For accounts, Meta says how closely a search matches an account's username or profile name is one of the things that decide which accounts appear as someone types. So we'd make the name line on your profile say what you do, in a buyer's words, not only your business name. Meta's list doesn't mention the bio. We'd still write it plainly, since it's what a person reads before they follow.
Hashtags show up in Instagram search as results of their own, and as suggestions while someone types. Meta says it ranks those suggestions by how closely a hashtag matches the search, and how often people who searched the same thing in your country tapped it after seeing it. We'd use a few tags that name what the post is about, the way a customer would say it.
Results are personal, because they lean on what each searcher interacts with. Meta says people can view results that aren't personalized, where the option is offered, and that's a fairer way to check where your business shows up. Our social media SEO post covers when Instagram posts can also show up on Google.
If people search Instagram for what you sell in your area and your account never comes up, getting your profile and posts into those results is what we'd work on together.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview said Instagram search listens to speech and reads on-screen text in Reels, citing creator videos and marketing blogs, while Meta's Instagram Search page doesn't mention either. ChatGPT listed six keyword steps, with made-up example accounts and no sources.
