TikTok SEO

TikTok SEO is the work of helping your videos come up when people search inside TikTok. TikTok says what can affect its search results includes how well a video matches the words someone typed, its hashtags and sound, the searcher's past activity, and their device settings, language and location. For most users, it says the video's own details count most.

What TikTok SEO means for your business

TikTok search and the For You feed don't lean on the same things. On the same help page, TikTok says what you've done before as a viewer, like the videos you watched all the way through, usually counts most in your For You feed. In search, it says the video's own details, including how well it matches the words typed, usually count most.

That's why we'd put the words your buyers use in your caption and your hashtags, and keep each video on one clear topic. We'd also say those words out loud and show them on screen, so the people watching know right away what the video answers.

TikTok has a built-in tool for finding those words. Creator Search Insights shows what people search for often, and it can filter for searches that don't turn up enough good videos. We'd check it before planning a month of posts and look for the questions your business is well placed to answer.

If buyers search TikTok for what you sell and keep finding other businesses, that's what our social search work sets out to change.

How AI answers it today

On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited creator videos and agency blogs, not TikTok's own pages, and took TikTok's line that follower count doesn't drive the For You feed and applied it to search. ChatGPT gave a keyword checklist with no sources cited.
