Product Schema

Product schema is code on a product page that spells out the price, whether it's in stock, review ratings and shipping in a format Google can read. Google calls it Product structured data and says those details can show right in search results, Google Images and Google Lens. It comes in two kinds: product snippets and merchant listings.

What Product Schema means for your business

Merchant listings are for pages where a shopper can buy from you. Google says a page that only links to another seller doesn't qualify. Product snippets fit pages where people can't buy, like a review of a product. Either way, Google wants the page to focus on one product, so a page listing everything in your shop isn't a fit.

Google's search gallery still lists product snippets and merchant listings, and in July 2026 it added a category field and explained how to mark sale start and end dates. Google also says the two sources can fill in for each other: a product snippet may use the price from your Merchant Center feed when the page's code leaves it out.

Google's 2026 guide to AI search says AI answers can include product listings, and it points to Merchant Center feeds, not special markup, to help with that. For a service business, we'd skip Product markup. A cleaning plan or a repair job isn't the single product these results are built around, and local business schema suits those pages better.

If Google shows the wrong price or says you're out of stock when you aren't, we'd start by checking that your product pages and your feed tell the same story.

How AI answers it today

On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited two of Google's product guides alongside schema vendors and SEO blogs, and said the code helps AI shopping tools, which Google's guide to AI search doesn't claim. ChatGPT gave three meanings, from databases to SEO, and cited nothing.
