Schema Type
A schema type is the label in structured data that says what kind of thing a page describes, such as an Organization, a Person, a Product or an Event. Schema.org defines each type with its own set of properties, like a name or an address, and arranges the types in a hierarchy from broad to narrow.

What Schema Type means for your business
Because the types nest, a narrow type carries everything above it. On Schema.org, Plumber sits under HomeAndConstructionBusiness, which sits under LocalBusiness and Organization, so a plumber's markup can use the properties of all of them.
A page can carry more than one type. A home page might describe both the business and the website, and a service page might describe the service. We'd give each page the types that match what's on it, and leave out any that don't.
Google's search gallery lists the types it can use for special search results, like product, recipe and event listings. We'd check that list before expecting a type to change how your listing looks.
If you've added schema and nothing about your listing has changed, checking that each page's code describes what's really on it is the first thing we'd look at.

On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview gave two meanings, Schema.org markup and database design, citing agency blogs, Medium, AWS and TechTarget. ChatGPT read it only as data types in code, like text and numbers, and cited nothing.
