Video structured data (VideoObject)
Video schema, or VideoObject structured data, is code on a web page that describes a video for search engines: its title, description, thumbnail, upload date and length. Google says the markup lets you influence what shows in video results and can make the video easier for Google to find. Its Clip and SeekToAction types help Google show key moments.

What Video structured data (VideoObject) means for your business
Key moments are the jump-to links Google can show under a video, like chapters in a book. Google says it tries to find them on its own, but it puts the ones you set first. On your own site, Clip markup gives each part a start time, an end time and a label. For a YouTube video, you put timestamps and titles in the description, one per line.
On YouTube, the same list of timestamps makes the chapters viewers see in the player. YouTube's help says the first timestamp has to start at 00:00, you need at least three in order, and each chapter runs at least 10 seconds. If you don't add them, YouTube may make automatic chapters for some videos.
Google says markup doesn't guarantee any video feature. It asks for a different name, description and thumbnail for each video, and for the markup to match what's in the video. We'd add it on pages that are mainly there to show one video, since those are the pages Google will index a video from. Then we'd run the page through Google's Rich Results Test.
If your videos answer the questions buyers search but show up in Google with no key moments, the right video markup can help Google show them.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited Yoast, SEO tool and agency blogs and YouTube tutorials, but not Google's own video markup page. ChatGPT gave sample code and a property table, linking only to Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator.
