Wikidata

Wikidata is a free database of facts hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit behind Wikipedia. Editors and bots add the facts, and anyone can reuse them, even for business, without asking. Each fact is a short statement about an item, like a company's founding date or official website, and it can carry the source it came from.

What Wikidata means for your business

Wikipedia tells a story in sentences. Wikidata keeps the facts in labeled fields, so software can read them without guessing. Wikipedia leans on it for things like the links between the same article in different languages, and anyone can search it at wikidata.org.

A business doesn't need a Wikipedia article to have a Wikidata item. Wikidata's notability page also accepts a real, clearly identifiable thing that public references describe. Editors can ask for an item to be deleted, though, so we'd only add one when the business plainly qualifies. We'd give each fact a source. And because you'd be paying us, we'd say so on the item's talk page or in each edit note, which the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use require for every paid edit.

If you already have an item, we'd read it the way software would. What does it say you are? Which website does it list as official? Do the facts carry sources? Anyone can edit Wikidata, so a wrong fact can sit there until someone changes it. If your Wikidata item calls you something you're not, bringing that item in line with your business is where we can help.

How AI answers it today

On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited Wikidata's own pages, Wikipedia, library training notes and Quora, with an item count from Wikidata's data page. ChatGPT gave the same meaning, compared it with Wikipedia in a table, and linked only Wikidata's site and query tool.
