Brand Entity
A brand entity is SEO shorthand for your business as search engines understand it: one specific thing with its own name, facts and connections to other things. No search engine defines the phrase. Google explained the idea in 2012, when it launched its Knowledge Graph as "things, not strings," using Taj Mahal: a monument, a musician or a casino.

What Brand Entity means for your business
In branding, the phrase can also mean the company as a brand. This page is about the search sense.
A name on its own can point to lots of things. A small business called Summit or Harbor has Taj Mahal's problem on a smaller scale, and a harder one, since the word alone points nowhere in particular. The facts printed next to the name, like what you sell, where you work and who owns the place, have to do the work the name can't.
Most of that starts on your entity home, the one page that says who you are, and in the listings that agree with it. If ChatGPT or Google describes a different Summit when someone asks about yours, getting search engines to pick you out is where we'd come in.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview split the term into a branding meaning and an SEO meaning, citing agency blogs and a student careers site. ChatGPT gave only the SEO meaning, used Nike as its example and cited nothing.
