Content Extractability

Content extractability is how easily an AI tool can lift a passage from your page and use it in an answer without the rest of the page around it. Krishna Madhavan, a Microsoft Bing product manager, wrote in October 2025 that AI assistants like Copilot break pages into smaller pieces, judge each piece, and build answers from several sources.

What Content Extractability means for your business

It's an industry phrase, and you'll also see it called retrieval readiness. Microsoft's own word is "snippable." Its list of what helps: one- or two-sentence answers to a question, lists, tables and Q&A blocks, headings that show where an idea starts and ends, and sentences that make sense when pulled out of context.

Pick a page that answers a common question and look at its shape. If the answer sits in a long paragraph, a short list or a small table usually carries it better, and a heading should show where each idea starts and ends. Our self-contained paragraph entry covers how each paragraph should open.

Microsoft also says nothing guarantees a page gets picked, and that the usual SEO basics still come first: pages search engines can crawl, good titles and descriptions, and internal links. We'd work on extractability after those basics, not in place of them.

If your site has the right answers but AI tools quote someone else's version, laying your pages out so each answer is easy to lift is where our citation-ready content work comes in.
