Quotability
Quotability is the quality of being quotable: how suitable a line or passage is for someone else to repeat. In AI search, SEO writers use the word for how readily an AI tool can quote a page in its answer, or list it as a source.

What Quotability means for your business
A quote-ready sentence, or citable claim, is one sentence that states one fact a reader could check, and declarative content means plain statements instead of hedging. Citation signals are the things people think make a page more likely to be cited, and citation architecture and an AI citation strategy are names for plans to get there. We haven't found any of these phrases in OpenAI's or Google's own help pages, and no AI company publishes a quotability score.
Google's own advice on its AI search says you don't need to write in a special way for AI Overviews or AI Mode, because its systems understand synonyms and general meaning. We agree with that. To us, a quotable sentence is just a clear one. It names its subject in full, says one thing, and carries its own details, so it still makes sense when it's read alone. A buyer skimming on a phone gets the same benefit.
Here's a made-up example. "We're the friendly choice for all your plumbing needs" gives an AI tool nothing worth repeating. "We clear blocked drains, replace water heaters and answer the phone on weekends" gives it three facts it can repeat.
If AI answers in your field repeat a directory's line or a competitor's, while your site says the same thing less plainly, writing sentences an AI tool can lift and repeat comes first in our work.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview gave only the everyday meaning, citing dictionaries and a Facebook group post, with nothing on AI search. ChatGPT also stuck to memorable lines from speeches, films and public figures, and cited nothing.
