Implicit Query
An implicit query is a search that software runs for you, based on what you're doing, rather than words you typed. Microsoft researchers used the term in 2004 for a test system that automatically created searches from a person's current activity on their computer.

What Implicit Query means for your business
You'll hear it two ways. Some people mean the need a search leaves unsaid, like someone typing "roofer" who probably wants one nearby. That's closer to what's usually called search intent. Researchers mean something else: searches a computer runs for you.
That second meaning is where AI search comes in. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode may use a "query fan-out" technique, issuing multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources to build a response. In May 2025, Google described those searches as made on your behalf. The buyer never types them, and keyword tools don't list them.
So a page can get used for a question nobody typed. Someone asks about a service, and the AI tool might also look up what it costs or how long it takes. We'd make sure your site answers those side questions plainly, on the pages where a buyer would expect to find them.
If AI answers about your line of work lean on other sites for details your pages leave out, filling in those answers on your own site is part of our answer engine work.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview mixed three meanings, from search intent to database code, citing Microsoft's SQL docs, Stack Overflow and Wix. ChatGPT gave only the unspoken-need meaning and cited nothing. Neither mentioned searches an AI tool runs for you.
