Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant. It answers questions, helps with writing and summaries, and makes images. The free version works in a web browser, in desktop and phone apps and in the Edge browser, and it can give real-time answers based on a web search. Paid Microsoft 365 plans put Copilot inside apps like Word and Excel.

What Microsoft Copilot means for your business
Copilot Search in Bing is Copilot inside Bing's results page. If an older guide talks about Bing Chat, Microsoft's Copilot page says Bing Chat has since become Microsoft Copilot. Microsoft launched Copilot Search in April 2025 and describes it as a traditional search engine and generative AI chat in one place. Its launch post says each answer cites its sources, links whole sentences to the pages behind them, and lets you open a list of every link used to build the answer.
That list lets you check an answer for yourself. We'd ask Copilot Search the questions your buyers ask, open the list, and note whose pages it used, whether yours is one of them, and whether what it says about you matches your site. A preview report in Bing Webmaster Tools also counts how often Copilot cites your pages.
Microsoft uses the Copilot name for more than one product. When we talk about getting your business named in Copilot, we mean the free app and Copilot Search, where buyers ask questions. Microsoft 365 Copilot is the paid version built into Word, Excel and Outlook, and we'd treat it as a tool for your own staff.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, ChatGPT described Copilot mostly through Word, Excel and Outlook, and neither answer mentioned Copilot Search in Bing. ChatGPT cited only Microsoft's support and Learn pages; Google's AI Overview cited Microsoft's pages, Wikipedia, YouTube and a training company's blog.
