Rufus (Amazon)

Rufus was Amazon's AI shopping assistant in the Amazon app and website, built to answer shopping questions, compare products and make recommendations. On May 13, 2026, Amazon renamed it Alexa for Shopping, bringing Rufus and Alexa together into one AI assistant that remembers your conversations across Amazon's site, app and Alexa devices.

What Rufus (Amazon) means for your business

Amazon says Rufus drew on its product catalog, customer reviews, community Q&As and information from across the web. Alexa for Shopping answers questions typed straight into the Amazon app's main search bar, and it puts AI overviews at the top of some search results and on product pages.

On a product page, Amazon says the answers come from the listing, its reviews and the community Q&As. So we'd make sure the title, bullets and description answer what shoppers ask: does it fit, how do you clean it, who's it for. Amazon also says Buy for Me can purchase select products from brands' own websites, so a brand that doesn't sell on Amazon can sometimes still show up there.
