Product Feed
A product feed is a file or data connection that lists the products a store sells, one row per item, with details like title, description, price, stock, image and product ID. Google Merchant Center reads one to show products in free listings and ads, and Google says it uses the data to match products to the right searches.

What Product Feed means for your business
Google's spec lists the common problems that get products turned down or shown wrong: the wrong category or barcode number, missing size or color details, poor images, and a feed that disagrees with the website. We'd look at products that come in sizes or colors first. Each version needs its own row, and the rows are linked by a shared group ID.
ChatGPT takes product feeds too. OpenAI's spec asks for nine fields per item, close to Google's list. It suggests uploading a full copy of the feed at least once a day. For now only approved partners can send one, and OpenAI's rules keep some products out entirely, like alcohol, nicotine and weapons. If you sell any of those, we'd skip the ChatGPT feed.
We'd build both feeds from the product data your site already uses so both show the same price and stock.
If you're weighing whether a ChatGPT feed is worth building next to your Google one, the AI shopping table in our market report shows where each program stands today, from checkout to product discovery.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, ChatGPT gave a plain definition with an example table and cited no sources. Google's AI Overview cited feed software vendors, Wikipedia and YouTube, and pointed its Merchant Center link at an unrelated Google page for things-to-do listings.
