Google Merchant Center

Google Merchant Center is a free Google tool where stores upload and manage their product details, like names, prices, photos and stock, so the products can show up across Google Search, Maps, YouTube and more. Listings there can be free, and the same product data can also power paid ad campaigns.

What Google Merchant Center means for your business

Google's guide to AI in its search results says Merchant Center feeds, along with Business Profiles, can help your products and services appear in AI answers as well as regular results. If you sell products, we'd set it up before anything aimed at AI tools in particular.

It isn't only for online stores. Google's help covers free local listings and local inventory ads, for businesses that sell online, in a physical store, or both. A shop with a counter and shelves can use it to show what's in stock nearby.

If you sell online, our roundup of AI shopping checkouts shows which AI tools can buy for a shopper and where each program stands today.

How AI answers it today

On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview called Merchant Center a free tool for listing products across Google and cited Google's own pages, Shopify, BigCommerce, Yotpo and Reddit. ChatGPT gave a similar answer and cited only Merchant Center's own site. Neither mentioned AI answers.
