Creator Authority

Creator authority is how much a creator or channel is trusted on a topic, by the people who watch and, on YouTube at least, by the search that ranks its videos. Platforms don't use the phrase. YouTube's search help comes near it: its search looks for channels that show expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness on a given topic.

What Creator Authority means for your business

In YouTube's wording, the trust belongs to a topic. We read that to mean a channel known for boat repair shouldn't expect that trust to follow it into tax tips (a made-up example). We'd treat creator authority as something an account earns one subject at a time.

For your own business account, that means choosing the few subjects you know best and posting about them again and again. We'd put a real person on camera where it fits, and answer questions in the comments in plain words, since that's where viewers see whether you know your stuff.

When you hire creators, we'd choose them by what they post about, not by how many followers they have. Our social media SEO post walks through how to check that before you sign anyone.

If your account posts a bit of everything and nobody treats it as the one to watch on a subject, helping it become known for that subject is social search work we take on.
