What DeepSeek means for your business
DeepSeek's privacy policy says its apps and website are run by Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd., with its registered address in China. Its chat can search the web. In an October 17, 2026 update, DeepSeek said its web and API search run on its own search engine, which indexes hundreds of billions of pages and filters out what it calls "SEO spam, GEO manipulation, and low-quality AIGC," short for AI-generated content.
DeepSeek's training summary from September 2026 names DeepseekBot as the crawler that collects public web pages to train its AI, and says it's designed to follow robots.txt. The summary doesn't say whether the same crawler feeds the search engine. As of October 29, 2026, we couldn't find a DeepSeek page that does, or a list of the IP addresses its crawler uses.
So a robots.txt line for DeepseekBot is a choice about training, and we can't say what it does for DeepSeek's search. We'd leave it alone unless you've decided against AI training.
If you're not sure DeepSeek's users matter to your business, our AI search research shows where it ranks in use among the AI tools we track.
