Google Business Profile
A Google Business Profile is a free listing that lets a business manage how it shows up on Google Search and Google Maps, with its hours, phone number, website, location, photos and reviews. Google gives one only to businesses that meet customers face to face, at a storefront or where the customer is. Online-only businesses can't get one.

What Google Business Profile means for your business
Google's guide to AI Overviews and AI Mode for site owners lists keeping your Business Profile information up to date as one of the SEO basics that still count there. We'd check the profile the same way we'd check your website: is every fact current, and does it match what your site says?
We'd start with your business category, since it tells Google what kind of business you are. Then your hours, including holiday hours, your address or service area, phone number, website link and photos. Google's ranking tips say businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local results, and that helpful replies to reviews can help you stand out.
If you sell only online, we'd put more of the work into your website, your social profiles and your listings on other sites, since the profile isn't open to you.
If your name, hours or address read one way on Google and another way on your website or on Yelp, getting your business facts to match everywhere is the first thing we'd fix.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited Google's own help pages, a booking app's blog, an SEO plugin's glossary and YouTube. ChatGPT linked only Google's Business Profile page, and neither answer said that online-only businesses can't get a profile.
