Google Reviews

Google reviews are the star ratings and written reviews people post about a business or place on Google Maps, sometimes with photos or videos. Google says reviews help people share an experience and help others choose. Every review is public, and Google can take down ones that break its content policy, such as spam or inappropriate content.

What Google Reviews means for your business

Google's help for Business Profile owners suggests sharing a review link or a QR code, so asking is easy. How you ask matters more. Google's policy bans paying for reviews, offering discounts or free stuff in return, asking only your happy customers, or steering unhappy ones away. Reviews from current or former staff are out too.

So we'd ask everyone the same way at the same point in the job. A card at checkout or a line in the follow-up email is plenty, and we'd skip anything that looks like a reward.

Then we'd read what comes back. Reviews are where customers describe your business in their own words: the services they bought, the town they're in, what they'd tell a friend. Those words are worth checking against your own website.

If customers praise a service your site barely mentions, or your reviews describe a different business than your site does, getting your business described the same way everywhere is where we'd help.

How AI answers it today

On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited Google's own Maps help page next to marketing agency blogs and several YouTube how-tos. ChatGPT cited nothing and showed a mock rating card for a made-up restaurant.
