SEO Audit

An SEO audit is a review of a website's content, structure and technical setup to find what's holding it back in search, and what fixing it would take. Google's own advice says a good audit gives you realistic estimates of how much things could improve and how much work that is. It shouldn't promise first place.

What SEO Audit means for your business

Google's own list of what a good SEO does starts with a review of your site's content or structure, plus technical advice on things like redirects and error pages. That's where we'd begin too. We'd open Search Console and check whether Google can find and index the pages that matter. Next we'd read each important page for what it says and the words it uses, and last we'd look at which other sites link to you, and why.

Google's guide to hiring an SEO has two tips we agree with. Give an auditor read-only access to Search Console at first, not the power to make changes, and check a tool's audit against Google's own guidance before you act on it, since Google says third-party tools don't have access to its internal ranking data.

In our view, a list of hundreds of tool warnings isn't a plan. We'd rank the fixes by which searches bring you buyers, and say plainly which ones can wait. An SEO audit looks at Google's regular results. What ChatGPT or Google's AI answers say about your business needs a separate check.

If you'd like to know later whether the fixes paid off, record your starting numbers first. It's the first thing we do before any other work.
