Local Rank Grid (Geogrid)
A local rank grid, or geogrid, is a map report made by local SEO tools such as BrightLocal and Local Falcon. Google doesn't make it. The tool lays a grid of points over a map around your business, runs the same search as if from each point, and colors each point by where you placed in local results there.

What Local Rank Grid (Geogrid) means for your business
Grids exist because local results change with where the searcher is, and Google names distance as one of the things behind them. One rank check from your front door can look far better than what a customer three neighborhoods over sees.
Each point is a search the tool runs from a map coordinate, and BrightLocal says no tool can fully copy one person's own search history. The grid's size and spacing are settings too. Local Falcon offers grids from 3 by 3 up to 21 by 21 points, and lets you switch off points over water, so the same business can look greener or redder depending on how the grid is set.
We'd use a grid to see where on the map you drop off and which businesses show up there instead. We'd set it over the places your customers live, then compare it with your calls and bookings.
If a grid report is full of green but your phone is quiet, the numbers we trust more than a map of pins begin with your calls and bookings.

How AI answers it today
On October 29, 2026, Google's AI Overview cited only grid tool companies and their help pages. ChatGPT cited nothing, named three tool makers and built a made-up dentist example with rank numbers; neither said plainly that Google itself doesn't offer one.
